The Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation Bureau of Financial Institutions seeks a Bank Examiner. This is an entry level position in the Bureau?s Examination Division.
Primary responsibilities include:
+ Ensure financial institutions operate in a safe and sound manner and in compliance with applicable laws
+ Assess all areas of operations; including asset quality, capital and asset liability management
+ Determine adequacy of internal controls and procedures
+ Evaluate the adequacy of management
+ Develop and make recommendations to correct deficiencies
To be successful in the position you must have knowledge of and experience in:
+ Accounting and auditing principles, practices and procedures
+ Analyzing management practices, accounting data, loan and investment portfolio data and other information necessary to conduct an examination
+ Writing clear and accurate reports
+ Communicating effectively and professionally
Since financial institutions subject to the Bureau of Financial Institutions? jurisdiction are located state-wide and in some cases out of state, candidates must have access to reliable transportation. Extensive overnight state-wide travel and some out-of-state travel are required. Overnight travel averages 20%-40% of an examiner?s work year, depending upon assignments and location of residence.
A Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business Administration ?OR- an equivalent amount of experience in accounting, auditing, economics, business administration, or banking. If work experience is used in lieu of education, it must be at the professional level in the areas indicated.
After meeting the minimum qualifications, preference may be given to applicants willing to reside within a reasonably close distance of the I-95/I295 corridor between Portland and Waterville to minimize the amount of overnight travel associated with this position.

The value of State?s share of Employee?s Retirement Contribution: 15.37% of pay for bargaining unit positions.
The value of State-paid Dental Insurance: $13.13 biweekly.
The value of State-paid Health Insurance:
95% State Contribution = $422.45 biweekly / Employee pays: 5%= $22.23 biweekly
90% State Contribution = $400.21 biweekly / Employee pays:10% = $44.47 biweekly
The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee's wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium payment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
